Fabrizio Plessi

BIOGRAFIA
nato a Reggio Emilia nel 1940. Tra i maggiori esponenti della video art. Ha studiato all'Accademia di belle arti di Venezia. Dedicatosi inizialmente alla pittura con opere volte a superare le soglie dell'informale, dall'inizio degli anni Settanta ha indirizzato la sua ricerca verso i rapporti tra arte e tecnologia, trovando nell'installazione, nella performance, nel film e nel video i linguaggi espressivi più congeniali. Dopo aver insegnato all'Accademia di Venezia, è stato docente (1990-2000) di umanizzazione delle tecnologie alla Kunsthochschule für Medien di Colonia, dove dal 1994 è titolare della cattedra di scenografia elettronica. Insistentemente legate al tema dell'acqua, le sue videoinstallazioni e videosculture combinano monitor con strutture di legno, ferro, pietra, oggetti o materiali diversi, dando luogo a soluzioni di forte impatto emotivo incentrate sulle molteplici possibilità di interrelazione tra immagine, suono, luce e movimento. Presente nei più importanti musei di arte contemporanea, ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti, tra i quali: Premio «Città di Milano» al Festival del cinema di Venezia (1980) per il film Liquid movie; medaglia Miró dell'UNESCO (1993); Kunstpreis der Norddeutschen Landesbank di Hannover  (1999). Le principali retrospettive sono state al Guggenheim Museum di New York(1998), alle Scuderie del Quirinale di Roma (2002), al Martin Gropius Bau di Berlino (2004) alla galleria Mario Mauroner Contemporary Art di Vienna (2005). Nel 2015 Venezia rende omaggio a Plessi in occasione della Biennale e dell’Expo con due grandi mostre in città: Liquid life a Ca’d’oro e Liquid Light alle Tese 94 dell’Arsenale.

BIOGRAPHY
He was born in Reggio Emilia in 1940. Among one of the most important exponents of video art. He studied at Accademia dele Belle Arti in Venice. From 70’s on, he has directed his searches to the relationship between art and technology, finding in installation, performance, film and video, the most congenial expressive languages.
After teaching at the Venice’s Academy, he taught humanization  of technology at Kunsthochschule fur Medien of Colonia, where since 1994 he’s the holder of the e-stage design chair. Insistently linked to the theme of water, his videoinstallations and videosculptures combine onitor with structures made of wood, iron, stone, objects or materials, giving rise to strong emotional impact solutions focus on the multiple possibilities of interaction between image, sound, light and movement.
Present in the most important museums of contemporary art, he has received numerous awards. among which: “City of Milan” award, at the Venice film festival (1980) for the Hannover (1999). The major retrospectives have been at the Guggenheim Museum of New York (1998), at he Quirinal stables of Rome (2002), at the Martin Gropius Bau of Berlin (2004) at the Mario Mauroner gallery and at the Contemporry art of vienna (2005). In 2015 Venice pays tribute to the countries on the occasion of the Biennale and the Expo with two major exhibitions in the city: Liquind Life in Ca’ d’oro and Liquid Light in Tese 94 at the Arsenal.
The work of Plessi is a draft of the project that he produced at the Biennale of Venice. There are gondolas inside the monitors, screens in which we can observe the flow of water.
